Microneedling Pen Instruction Guide
Welcome to your comprehensive guide for a safe and comfortable microneedling experience. Remember, microneedling should only be performed once every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure optimal skin health.
Pre-Needling Instructions
To minimize bleeding and ensure the best results, avoid anti-inflammatory medication, alcohol, and fish oil supplements for three days prior to your treatment.
You Will Need:
- A microneedling device of your choice
- A clean towel
- A brand new microneedling cartridge
- Alcohol solution for sanitizing
- Cotton pads
- Hyaluronic acid serum (recommended)
- Optional: Surgical gloves, numbing cream
- Prepare Your Skin: Tie your hair back to keep it away from your face. Double cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser to remove all makeup, dirt, and oil.
- Optional Numbing: Apply a numbing cream containing at least 5% Lidocaine if needed. Use half the tube on the treatment area and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. Remove the cream thoroughly with 60% alcohol mixed with purified water or 0.1% chlorhexidine.
- Device Preparation: Ensure your microneedling device is fully charged or near a power source.
- Sanitization: Sterilize the device and the surface you will be using. Keep an alcohol solution nearby to prevent cross-contamination.
- Serum Preparation: Pour some hyaluronic acid serum into a clean bowl for easy application during treatment.
Microneedling Instructions
- Apply Serum: Lubricate the skin with hyaluronic acid serum to help the needles glide smoothly. Avoid using Vitamin C, retinol, exfoliants, or other active ingredients during the treatment.
- Hand Hygiene: Clean your hands thoroughly or wear gloves. Attach a new microneedling cartridge to your device without touching the needle tips.
- Set Needle Depth: Adjust the needle depth on your device according to your needs. Refer to the depth chart for guidance.
- Treatment Technique: Work in small sections, applying serum just before needling. Move the pen in a vertical, horizontal, and diagonal cross-hatch pattern. Use light pressure and keep the skin taut with your free hand.
- Body Areas: When treating body areas like legs or hands, avoid bony areas. Use 36-42 pin cartridges with a needle depth of 0.5mm for legs and up to 1.5mm for fattier areas.
Post-Needling Instructions
- Initial Care: Use tepid water to wash your face if needed. Immediately apply hyaluronic acid serum to hydrate and calm the skin.
- Normal Reactions: Redness and pinpoint bleeding are normal post-treatment. Avoid working out, sweating, or applying makeup for 24 hours. Use a high-protection sunscreen if going outdoors.
- First 24 Hours: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and use a nourishing moisturizer. Avoid products with fragrance, active ingredients, acids, physical scrubs, and toners.
- 48 Hours Post-Treatment: If experiencing dry, flaking skin, gently exfoliate with a clean washcloth. Continue hydrating the skin twice daily.
- 3-5 Days Post-Treatment: Apply high-protection sunscreen daily and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Use hydrating and moisturizing products, and avoid active ingredients, scrubs, acids, and toners.
- 7+ Days Post-Treatment: Return to your regular skincare routine.
Additional Tips
- Keep your microneedling device clean and properly stored.
